My favorite topic in learning Mandarin is animal names because I’m amused by the compound words.
- 袋鼠 (dàishǔ) - bag rat (kangaroo)
 - 松鼠 (sōngshǔ) - pine rat (squirrel)
 - 花栗鼠 (huālìshǔ) - flower chestnut rat (chipmunk)
 - 仓鼠 (cāngshǔ) - warehouse rat (hamster)
 - 浣熊 (huànxióng) - wash bear (raccoon)
 - 狗熊 (gǒuxióng) - dog bear (black bear)
 - 龙虾 (lóngxiā) - dragon shrimp (lobster)
 - 龙猫 (lóngmāo) - dragon cat (chinchilla)
 - 恐龙 (kǒnglóng) - fear dragon (dinosaur)
